ABOUT AMANDA SIMMONS

Based in Dumfries and Galloway, Amanda Simmons at Corsock Glass works across the Public and Private Commission sector and produces work for Galleries. Corsock is based in the rugged hills situated south west from Dumfries and is an ideal setting, full of inspiration for a creative glass studio.

Amanda studied at Westminster College with Gayle Mattias and Yvonne Coffey and then at Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design in London with Caroline Swash and Helen Maurer. There she gained a Distinction in her Postgraduate Certificate in Glass and Architecture before locating her studio in Scotland.

Amanda makes kiln formed and cameo engraved glass vessels, boxes and wall based work. For the last 8 years she has been interested in making marks in glass with diamond point engraving and more recently with a diamond wheel lathe. She is fascinated in the forms created by gravity within the kiln, the vessels becoming more complex as she perfects the technique.

She is motivated by many everyday themes such as love, baking and the rugged hills of Dumfries and Galloway, but also draws on her biomedical sciences past life in the form of toxic botanicals and therapeutic drugs.
